What Will Black Friday 2020 Look Like?

This year will be the most unpredictable Black Friday we have ever seen. With many retail stores closed or with limited foot traffic due to social distancing, who are the businesses that will be most affected both positively and negatively?

Well, for big box retailers this could be a disaster. They rely on Black Friday and the rest of the holiday season for a massive chunk of their holiday sales, often earning up 30-50% of annual revenues in a one month stretch.

Those who will succeed are those who have a blended approach that combines physical and eCommerce. It’s estimated that Black Friday weekend eCommerce sales could be triple this year compared to last.

Due to the rise of eCommerce, expect the sales to start early in November this year. UPS, USPS, and FedEx only have so much shipping capacity and have already said they will be implementing surge pricing this year on peak days/weeks. Because of this expect many eCommerce retailers to start sending out offers earlier to avoid the logistical jam that will be BF weekend.
