Apple Pay Has Passed PayPal in eCommerce Checkout Volume, So if You’re Not Using it, You’re Missing Out

Apple CEO, Tim Cook, reported that in Q3 Apple Pay processed more than 3 billion transactions and is growing 4x faster than PayPal. All this despite the fact that PayPal is available as checkout option on significantly more sites than Apple Pay is.

This means customers prefer using Apple Pay checkout over other methods, pointing to a larger trend of merchants continuously looking for ways to reduce friction for their customers. Checkout friction is one of the largest reasons why customers abandon their cart. By having easy methods like Apple Pay available or Fast.co for non-Apple users (coming soon), merchants can alleviate these frictions.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday are Over, But There are Still Many Opportunities to Cash in This Holiday Season

The two biggest individual sales days have past, BUT there are still many opportunities that you will not want to miss out on. You do not have to participate in all of these sales events, but try to take advantage of as many as you can.

December 3 – 8: Cyber week. Cyber Monday is over, but Cyber week is fully under way. This is a good chance to use scarcity to your advantage and close sales from on website visitors who left and especially visitors who abandoned their cart by telling them they still have one last chance to get exclusive Cyber Monday discounts before stock runs out.

December 10: Green Monday. This was started by eBay in 2007 but has grown in popularity. It’s primarily targeted towards gift buyers who begin to panic as time to buy gifts for Christmas begins running out.

December 14: Free Shipping Day. Many companies band together on this day to offer free shipping as an extra incentive for customers to buy. It’s highly effective to send this offer to mailing lists and run retargeting ads making sure customers know this is the only day to get free shipping (create some urgency!).

December 21: Super Saturday / Last Shipping Day. This is the last Saturday before Christmas and will be the last major buying day of the year.

December 22-30: Hanukkah

December 25: Christmas Day

December 26: Boxing Day (UK)
