Purchasing goods and services online has become a common practice among many people around the world. Some choose to make online purchases for convenience, others because of the competitive price offered by some e-commerce platforms. Digital buyers can also be influenced by a range of digital resources when shopping, such as brand emails and product reviews. Reasons to purchase aside, the number of digital buyers is on the rise.   About 80 percent of internet users in the U.S. are expected to make at least one purchase online during the calendar year in 2019, a significant increase from 2013, when this share stood at 73 percent.

In 2017, retail e-commerce sales worldwide amounted to 2.3 trillion US dollars and e-retail revenues are projected to grow to 4.88 trillion US dollars in 2021.

If you’re a fashion shopper or seller, you’ll like to know that in 2018, market leader macys.com generated 3,6 billion U.S. dollars via the sale of fashion articles in the United States. The online store amazon.com was ranked second with a revenue of 2,6 billion U.S. dollars.  How long will it take Amazon to jump ahead of Macys?  Not long…

As far as overall online sales, not surprisingly, in 2018, market leader amazon.com generated 65 billion U.S. dollars via the sale of physical goods in the United States. The online store walmart.com was ranked second with a revenue of 16,5 billion U.S. dollars.

But before you get visitors to your eCommerce store, you must advertise.  Again, the advertising trend moving forward is very clear.  Social Media will just keep growing at a much faster pace than traditional search advertising.  All other channels, will also continue to grow, albeit, at a much more moderate pace.

Finally, the fact that most digital marketing advertising on social media is going to mobile ads shouldn’t surprise anyone at this point.  In fact, the mobile ads growing trend, applies not just to social media, but to all other online advertising channels alike.

Now you just need to ask yourself: are your advertising dollars being spent on the right channels to reach as many eyeballs as possible or are you still fantasizing about that two-page spread ad that costs so much, makes you feel so good but nobody sees?
